Built in Umbilo, Serving Durban and Beyond
Screen Spectrum was started in 2008 with a simple goal: give local customers a dependable place for screen and digital printing that could handle small jobs, school requirements and larger commercial runs without fuss. From our Umbilo base in Durban, we work with clients across Durban Central, Berea, Pinetown, Westville, Amanzimtoti, Ballito and Pietermaritzburg, and we courier nationwide when a collection is not practical.
Durban businesses know that timing matters. School events, club kits, staff wear, market stalls and signage all tend to come with fixed dates and short lead times. We plan around that pressure by keeping production practical, from artwork checking right through to dispatch. It helps that our team is used to working in KZN conditions too, where humidity can affect materials and load-shedding can interrupt the day if you are not organised. That is why we keep our process tight and our stock flow managed.
We are set up to support repeat orders as well as one-off print jobs, and many clients come back because they want the same colour, the same placement and the same finish each time. That consistency matters when you are printing for a school leavers shirt, a sports club fundraiser or signage for a busy shopfront.
What We Stand For in Every Print Run
Our work is guided by plain values that clients can feel in the final result. We keep communication direct, we check the detail before anything goes to print, and we aim to make the process as straightforward as possible from first enquiry to delivery.
- Attention to detail on artwork, sizing and placement before production starts
- Practical advice on the best print method for the garment or material
- Careful colour separation and screen preparation for clean results
- Reliable turnaround with clear updates when stock or finishing needs time
- Respect for budgets, whether the order is 10 items or 1 000
We also understand that not every client arrives with print-ready artwork. Some come with a rough sketch, an old logo or a file that needs work before it can be used. That is normal. Our job is to spot what needs fixing and sort it properly so the finished item looks right and lasts well. It saves time later and avoids costly reprints, which is something every business wants.
Our In-House Screen Making Process
One of the strengths of Screen Spectrum is that our screen making happens in-house. That means we can manage the full chain from artwork preparation to screen stretching, coating, exposure and washout without sending work all over town. It gives us better control over quality and makes the whole process more efficient for rush jobs and repeat runs.
Our screen department handles the practical side of production that many clients never see but always benefit from. We do frame reclaiming, emulsion coating, screen exposure, washout and touch-up, screen registration, test printing and screen storage. When a job needs multiple colours or precise placement, that preparation makes a real difference to the final print.
Because we handle our own stencil and screen making, we can work on runs of any size. A small batch for a club event gets the same care as a larger corporate order. That flexibility matters in Durban, where businesses often need quick replenishment and schools may need several sizes, colours and names across a single order.
How We Help Schools, Clubs and Businesses
Many of our clients are looking for printing that can keep up with busy schedules and mixed order types. Schools need matric shirts, sports day wear, fundraising items and banners. Clubs need match kit, supporter wear and signage. Businesses need branded clothing, caps and printed display material that stands up to regular use.
We work with a wide mix of items including T-shirts, caps, banners and signage. The process is always shaped by the intended use. A shirt for staff wear is not handled the same way as a promotional shirt for one event, and outdoor signage needs different thinking from indoor print work. We make those calls based on the material, the purpose and the conditions it will face.
- T-shirts for uniforms, promotions and event wear
- Caps for staff, clubs and giveaways
- Banners for launches, school functions and trading events
- Signage for shops, stalls, offices and venues
- Short runs, repeat runs and mixed-size orders
Where needed, we can courier finished work nationwide, which is useful for clients outside Durban who still want local production standards. For KZN customers, our location in Umbilo keeps us close to the main routes into the city and surrounding areas, so deliveries and collections are easy to coordinate.
The People Behind the Work
Screen Spectrum is a hands-on business, and the people in the team play a big part in how the company runs day to day. Sibusiso Mthethwa leads the business as Managing Director, bringing the overall direction and client focus. Anele Zungu manages production, making sure jobs move through the workshop properly. Nokuthula Dlamini handles sales and helps clients through the ordering process.
Yusuf Khan leads screen making, which is central to the quality of the print work. Priya Naidoo coordinates artwork, checking the files and preparing them for production. Lwazi Khumalo supervises dispatch, so finished orders are packed and sent out correctly. Each role is linked, and when one part is done properly the next step becomes easier. That is how we keep the work moving without confusion.
We are a team that understands real deadlines and practical expectations. Clients do not need fancy language from us, just straight answers and clean results. If an artwork file needs redrawing or a colour break needs adjustment, we say so. If a print method is better suited to a job, we explain why. That kind of honest working style has helped us build trust over time.
Why Clients Keep Coming Back
People come back to Screen Spectrum because they know what to expect. The work is handled carefully, the communication stays clear, and the finished product is checked before it leaves us. For many businesses, that consistency is more useful than anything flashy. It means less time spent correcting mistakes and more time getting on with the job at hand.
We also understand the practical side of printing in South Africa. Power interruptions, weather, courier timing and tight event dates can all affect production, so it helps to work with a supplier who plans ahead and keeps things moving. Our processes are set up with those realities in mind, from screen storage to dispatch planning. It is not complicated, just disciplined.
Whether you are ordering for a school event in Durban, a club in Pietermaritzburg or a business that needs courier delivery elsewhere in the country, we aim to make the process simple. Clients can reach us through the enquiry form on our contact page, and from there we take it step by step, from first check through to final delivery.
